What makes us unique? We have many laboratories, experimental rooms, real laboratories, equipment, rooms and test halls in which our researchers conduct experiments, often in collaboration with our students. On this page, we show some of these experimental facilities in videos and picture galleries (below), many of which can only be found in this form at TU Braunschweig. Our first videos show the strip light scanner at the IGP, the living room at the IEB, the ZeBra (Centre for Fire Research) at the IBMB, the patient room of the future at the IKE and the railway teaching facility at the IVE.

We use the structured-light 3D scanner to measure components three-dimensionally in the hundredths of a millimetre range. Prof Markus Gerke introduces the functionality and purpose of the structured light scanner and explains how the Institute of Geodesy and Photogrammetry measures the environment in three dimensions, both large and small, and translates it into models.

"We love people!" is the motto of the Institute of Design and Building Design, which specialises in the design of residential buildings. Students teach, discuss and design together in the living room, a kind of think tank, which is presented here by Prof Dan Schürch.

In the large hall of the Centre for Fire Research, ZeBra for short, we carry out large-scale fire tests such as vehicle fires and façade fires over several floors in the four-storey fire house. Prof Jochen Zehfuß shows us the building, how it works and the calorimeters used to collect and analyse the smoke gases.

Prof Wolfgang Sunder shows how many new ideas - from door handles to the positioning of hospital beds - can minimise the transmission of infection in the patient room of the future. The real-life patient room laboratory is also used to train nursing staff and teach students who design hospital buildings.

At the railway training facility, students learn how trains can be safely controlled using real interlocking technology and a connected model railway. Jonas Herrmann shows us how mechanical technology, electromechanical and digital control technology are used.
