Institute for Jet Propulsion and Turbomachinery

With more than 16,000 students and 3,800 employees, the Technische Universität Braunschweig is one of Germany´s leading institutes of technology. It stands for strategic and performance-oriented thinking and acting, relevant research, committed teaching, and the successful transfer of knowledge and technologies to the economy and society. We consistently advocate for family friendliness and equal opportunities.

Our research focuses are mobility, engineering for health, metrology, and city of the future. Strong engineering and natural sciences are our core disciplines. These are closely interconnected with economics, social and educational sciences and humanities.

Our campus is located in the midst of one of the most research-intensive regions in Europe. We work successfully together with over 20 research institutions in our neighborhood as we do with our international partner universities.

Starting from the earliest possible date, the Institute for Jet Propulsion and Turbomachinery is looking for a

Research Associate (m/f/d) in the field of

Development of a hybrid-electric drive system for sustainable aviation

(EG 13 TV-L, full-time)

The position is to be filled on a fixed-term basis for 3 years. The successful applicant will be given the opportunity to pursue a doctorate.

With the major goal of climate-neutral flying, we at IFAS are developing a hybrid-electric propulsion system for experimental research. The project aims to make a significant contribution to the medium- and long-term emission reduction targets in aviation. This is to be achieved through highly integrated and disruptive propulsion concepts that combine high performance with low weight, high efficiency and low emissions. Electrically or hybrid-electrically powered propulsion in particular, which enables synergy effects such as boundary-layer-ingestion, is a promising concept. The main objective of EPIFAN is therefore the detailed investigation and quantification of the interactions within these propulsion concepts, especially in near-ground operation and along different aircraft missions. Within the project timeframe, experiments are to be conducted that provide data for the verification of numerical simulations. The identification of new evaluation parameters and limiting parameters for safe operation are therefore part of the research.
