After successful completion of this course, students will have the ccompetence to understand state-of-the-art biomedical data science analysis and will be able to assess and evaluate corresponding studies from a data science perspective. Importantly, they will gain a domain-specific understanding and will be able to assess the applicability of data science techniques to specific biomedical problems as well as to interpret results of such analysis from a biomedical perspective. Students will also have the competence to critically assess scientific papers and give scientific presentations including discussions.
The seminar topics will cover methodological basis of data science and current topics in the field. A focus will be on the application of general data science approaches to specific biomedical problems. Additionally, students will learn how to prepare and deliver scientific presentations, how to summarize and assess scientific texts, and how to conduct literature search.
