Access

The lending of physical media is possible for all users after an initial registration.

Once you have registered, you will have an online account at your disposal where you can maintain extensions, reservations or literature lists as well as check your current borrowed literature.

In addition to the classic print media, the University Library also offers a large number of electronic resources which you can use to access online via various services such as Shibboleth or VPN.

To register, use the online registration form. The Circulation Desk is available for any questions you have concerning your TUcard or your library card.

a student at TU Braunschweig
a member of TU Braunschweig
16 years of age with residence in Germany

After registering, you can pick up your library card at the Circulation Desk (Mo-Fr 9:00 - 18:00, Sa 10:00 - 14:00).

Requirements:

a valid Identity Card or
a valid passport and certificate of residence or residence permit with a valid address
Individuals aged 15 also require a declaration of consent for the registration of minors

and

for students of TU Braunschweig: a valid TUcard
for students of HBK and Ostfalia: a valid student ID
for staff members: a valid work certificate if not listed on the homepage of your institute

and

fee: 5 EUR, if you are not a member/associate of TU Braunschweig

By registering, you accept the terms of use of the University Library.

Period of validity / membership
Generally, library cards are valid for one year and can be extended free of charge by applying at the Circulaton Desk in person with all the valid documents (see above).

Change of address
Please report any changes of address to the Circulation Desk as soon as possible via email to ub-leihstelle(at)tu-braunschweig.de.

Loss of library card
In your own best interest, please report any loss of your library card to the Circulation Desk as soon as possible. At your request, a new library card can be issued (fee: 5 EUR).

Loss of TUcard
Please report the loss of your TUcard to the Studienservice-Center or, outside of opening hours, to the University Library.

Orders
Media from the closed stack can be ordered independently in the catalog. Your orders are usually ready for pickup after 3 hours (within the opening hours of the circulation desk) . Orders are made available for pickup 5 working days.

Loan Periods
General loan period: 4 weeks
Loans can be renewed up to 6 times
via your account in the catalogue.

Interlibrary loans: about 3-4 weeks. Please note that interlibrary loans cannot be renewed
via the catalogue. Please send your application for renewal to the Circulation Desk
before the loan is due.

Reserved publications
You can reserve a publication which is on loan right now via the cataloge.
As soon as the publication is available, this will be indicated in your account and you will be contacted by email.
Reserved publications can be picked up at the Circulation Desk for 5 opening days.

Returns

Borrowed media can be returned at the circulation desk, at the self-service check-out counter or outside the opening hours of the University Library via the media return box (on the right side in front of the entrance of the University Library).
Returning media by mail to the lending desk is at your own risk! Decisive for the date of return by mail and media return box is the date of receipt at the circulation desk. Fees can be paid at the Circulation Desk.

If you are a member of TU Braunschweig want to use our electronic media from your device, you have to connect to it via the TU network. This is possible from all stationary PCs and all mobile devices with Wi-Fi access to the TU network (eduroam).
When you are on the road or at home, you can do this via Virtual Private Network (VPN). For the publishers SpringerNature, DeGruyter, IEEE, Wiley and many more you have the possibility to log in via Shibboleth with your TU-ID. VPN is no longer necessary.

Virtual Private Network VPN
To access electronic media from home or on the road, you need a Virtual Private Network (VPN) on your device. You must be a member of TU Braunschweig. Instructions for setting up a VPN can be found here.
Please use the connection-profile Tunnel-All-Traffic (not Tunnel-TU-Traffic) in this case.

Shibboleth
To access the licensed content of the University Library from home or on the road, you have two options: Either you can use the VPN access mentioned above, for which you have to install special software, or you can use the Shibboleth service. All you need to use this service is your standard login data from the GITZ. For more information about Shibboleth and the supported publishers, please have a look at our blog post (in German).

E-Books
E-Books are accessible via TU network and VPN access. Depending on the publisher, you can download individual chapters and/or entire e-books and print them out. E-books do not have to be "borrowed". Copies (e.g. copies, downloads) are only permitted of single chapters or pages and only for your own scientific use. No passing on to third parties.

If a publication you need is not available in Braunschweig, you can order it via interlibrary loan. To do this you have to be registered at the University Library and have a GBV online interlibrary account (which you can open at the Circulation Desk).

New: Copies are now supplied in electronic form: E-mail with download link. The costs for this new service (remuneration to Verwertungsgesellschaft WORT) will be covered by the UB Braunschweig.
